Tomato sauce with arepas

Tomato sauce "Hogao" with arepas is a simple way to add some zing into your lunch routines. This traditional Colombia meal is great to share with friends and family.

Serving:  6 Classic/White Arepas

 

How Long: 

20 minutes

 

What you’ll need:

  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup chopped spring onion
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground pepper
  • 2 cups diced tomato
  • 1 packet of classic/white arepas

 

What to do:

  1. Toast the arepas in the toaster or on the grill
  2. Heat oil in a saucepan, add the tomatoes, spring onion, garlic, ground cumin and cook gently for 10 minutes, stirring until softened.
  3. Reduce the heat to low, add the salt and , cook for 10 minutes more, stirring occasionally until the sauce has thickened. Check and adjust the seasoning.
  4. serve warm on top of the arepas and enjoy!
